Demining is the process of clearing: detecting, removing and destroying mines. The purpose is to remove all mines from the area.

Mine clearence is often used in "combat-zones", subject here is more to create safeish "paths" trough the mined area then to remove all mines from a larger area. Speed is often vital and casualties from undiscovered mines are acceptable, while in humaitarian demining the area have to be 100% cleared (or 99.6% according to UN directives).
